The "Wieliczka" Salt Mine Health Resort is a unique, unique medical center on a global scale, which conducts medical activities in underground mining excavations.
The "Wieliczka" Salt Mine Health Resort provides medical services in therapeutic salt chambers on the third level of the Mine (135 meters underground). The treatment here is mainly used
A special microclimate: air that, thanks to the natural properties of salt, is free of pollutants and allergens, rich in microelements, with a constant temperature and high humidity.
Patients stay underground under the care of doctors - specialists, nurses and physiotherapists. Descents for treatments take place through the Regis shaft located in the center of Wieliczka.
The activities of the Health Resort are carried out on the basis of
about the best models of modern medicine and with the cooperation of scientific authorities. It is used primarily by patients with chronic and recurrent respiratory tract diseases such as:
• bronchial asthma,
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - COPD,
• pollen allergy during the period of symptoms,
• chronic allergic rhinosinusitis,
•Chronic
non-infectious bronchitis, bronchiectasis,
• recurrent rhinitis, sinusitis, throat and larynx.
As part of the active rehabilitation program
Pulmonology Department in the "Wieliczka" Salt Mine Health Resort are currently carried out:
• specialist training (endurance training) tailored individually to the patient's needs,
• aerobic training,
• breathing training including: correction of the respiratory path, strengthening the respiratory muscles, cleansing the bronchial tree, cough training,
• individual consultations
physiotherapy with exercise instruction,
• relaxation classes.
In addition, during the camps, health education is conducted in the form of lectures with the use of modern multimedia m.in.
on: factors that may exacerbate disease symptoms, self-monitoring of the course of the disease, management of breathlessness attacks, recommendations for lifestyle and work changes in patients
at home after the end of the camp.
Staying underground has a soothing effect on respiratory diseases and allergic ailments. Healing air has a positive effect on both the mood and the condition of the entire body. The main goals of therapy are:
• Improving the quality of life of patients with chronic respiratory diseases
• Reducing the severity of disease symptoms
• Improved treatment control
• Increasing the patient's awareness and involvement in the treatment process
• Improving exercise tolerance and physical performance.
In the complex of treatment chambers, therapeutic stays are conducted -- outpatient or with accommodation.
The minimum number of ski days for a therapeutic stay is 5 (longer stays are recommended -- 2 or 3 weeks).
The therapy is conducted for 5 hours a day on weekdays (weekends are days off from conventions).
Therapeutic stays begin on Mondays with a medical qualification and initial functional assessment.
The treatment can be used by both adults and children over 4 years of age (under the supervision of an adult).
